January 2024 Reads -
now visible, along with currently reading, on the right hand side on this page!
January was a strange month in New England this year. We had the normal stretches of joint-aching cold and a few seasonally appropriate snows - but we also had some very odd 40°-50°F days.
January's weather started off the 2024 feeling unsettled and wrong, like going into a much feared teacher's class one day and watching them fume and steam instead of erupting as usual. One would think the warm days would be a relief from the cold, damp painful winters of New England. They are lovely to look at but my medically quirky family brace ourselves for all through Autumn. This January, however, the unexpected barometric shifts were batterings we usually endure at other times of the year.
To make up for the meteorological chaos out of doors and the physiological crankiness indoors, my teens and I dove deep into watching Jeopardy together. When those ran dry, I grumbled into books and grudgingly made some progress on my reading goal.
Courtesy of our extensive local library systems and the wonders of e-books, I worked some fun new finds books, a couple of lousy ones and one book I didn't even bother to finish. I particularly enjoyed getting lost in The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic and Stars and Smoke (Stars and Smoke, #1).
